The relationship between the Center for Multicultural Affairs (CMA) and Bridgewater State College student organizations is based on trust, mutual respect, cooperation and a belief that students have the power to lead.   

 

CMA has the obligation to:

• Continue our commitment to foster cultural pluralism among student organizations.

• Provide cultural training for student organizations and/or advisors when requested.

• Assist student organizations in meeting their cultural objectives and organization mission as it relates to cultural identity when requested.

• Encourage student organizations officers/members to see themselves as both teachers and learners.

 

Student Organization officers/members have an obligation to:

• Comply with the policies and procedures that govern Bridgewater State College student organizations.

• Maintain a strong working relationship and regular contact with the student organization advisor.

• Maintain regular contact and a strong working relationship with assigned Student Program Advisor. 

• Request cultural assistance from CMA at least 6 weeks prior to the event.

• Maintain a sense of shared purpose and collaboration.

• Follow event planning procedures as defined by The Office of Student Involvement and Leadership and the Conference and Event Services Office.

 

The CMA provides the following support and assistance that is designed to help student organizations meet their organizational goals:

 

Splash of Color is one of the signature events CMA hosts during Welcome Week at Bridgewater State.  The goal of Splash of Color is to provide CMA organizations with a stage to inform the Bridgewater State College community about their organizational mission and upcoming events.  Splash of Color also gives students the opportunity to recruit new members.      

 

Harambee is Swahili for let's all pull together.  The CMA hosts Harambee meetings on the fourth Tuesday of every month.  Harambee meetings provide CMA student organizations the opportunity to collectively discuss organizational goals and to solicit assistance from one another in meeting those goals.  Harambee meetings also afford students another opportunity to become familiar with The Office of Student Involvement and Leadership resources.   

 

The CMA provides assistance with identifying the cultural customs, values, performance resources, cultural speakers and recipes for under-represented groups of people.   The CMA also offers intercultural trainings that are designed to assist student organizations in successfully meeting their organizational goals.
