Inclusive Excellence

At Bridgewater State College our approach to diversity is rooted in the concept of Inclusive Excellence (IE) (promoted by the American Association of Colleges and Universities).  Inclusive Excellence offers a national definition of diversity and links the definition to evaluation and assessment (Inclusive Excellence Scorecard), which can be easily articulated and understood.  Inclusive Excellence has the following features:

A.  Melds Inclusiveness and Excellence

B. Shifts the university away from conceptualizing diversity as a numerical representation (numbers only) of diverse faculty, staff, and students.

C. Shifts the responsibility for diversity on the campus to everyone as opposed to one unit or department shouldering the responsibility of diversity.

D. Inclusive excellence employs a broad and inclusive definition of diversity that includes disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, race/ethnicity, disability, religion, nationality, age and other important social dimensions that are part of a university community. 

Below is the Inclusive Excellence Framework. This framework has four features (Access and Equity, Diversity in the Curriculum, Learning and Development and Campus Climate). Please note, as you move your cursor over each grid, you will be taken to a page which defines the feature and offers you a table describing current strategies being implemented at BSC to address each grid. Also, when you move your cursor of the "Inclusive Excellence at BSC" grid, you will be taken to a report of current progress in each grid.

As you pursue this website, you will notice some areas are more developed than others, please take comfort that over time we will address every area on IE matrix; your input and participation will critical as we do so.
