The Academic Achievement Center houses a variety of programs and services that supports the adjustment to college and the academic success of students.
The Learning Assistance Services offered in the Academic Achievement Center are designed by faculty and staff to support students’ academic success throughout their college careers. Services strive to teach skills and strategies that enable each student to become an independent and active learner. Learning assistance is available each weekday and some evenings. Please visit individual links to learn about available services and current hours of availability.
LASSR’s mission is to support students in acknowledging their intellectual capabilities and desire to experience the full benefits of college life. We draw from the prevailing research in effective literacy practices and our personal experiences to model and scaffold the study and research strategies essential to success. In recognizing that each learner is an individual with a unique way of learning, we support students in building self-awareness and self-confidence in their growth toward academic independence.
BSC Writing consultants help students develop, organize, and workshop college papers in all disciplines and in all stages of completion. The BSC Writing Studio is not an editing service; our philosophy is to help students become better writers, and, where possible, to help students develop greater competency and fluency in the craft. Average consultation times are 30 minutes and students should plan on making appointments.
Mathematics Services at the AAC offers students a comfortable, supportive and low stress environment for studying mathematics. Enthusiastic, friendly tutors encourage collaboration and answer questions while students work in groups or alone on homework or review for tests. This is a walk-in service; there is no need to schedule tutoring sessions in advance.
BSC Second Language Services include services for English as a Second Language students and native speaking students who study foreign languages. We offer a variety of programs supporting language learning at various stages of proficiency.
Both resident non-native speaking students and international students are welcome to utilize BSC ESL services, including our assessment sessions, walk-in tutoring, Telephone Buddies' and Conversation Partners' programs.
